1) Introduction
Poker Dice for Windows is a game similar to 5 card draw except that it
is played with dice. You place your bet and then throw 5 dice in a cup,
shake the cup, and see what comes out. You can have from 1 to 3 rolls per
deal. Once you've made the best poker hand you can it is the computers turn
to try and beat you.
If you run out of money it will be time to visit the bank. Keep an eye
on the interest rates they change daily and can be steep at times.
Poker Dice is shareware. That is to say, it's not free. Shareware
is a means of marketing software for those of us who don't have a crack
marketing department with a huge budget.
The basic premise is that you get to try out the software before you buy it.
Once you've tried the product, and decided it is worth the cost, you send
in your registration fee and will receive the latest, greatest version of
the software. This process is known as Shareware Registration.
In this case the latest and greatest version has some of the annoying aspects
of the shareware version taken out. Such as, the logo screen does not
appear after every 5 deals, the game loads **much** faster than
the shareware version, and you get a free cheat utility to give yourself
more cash or pay off your debts when you register.
The registration price is $14.50. You can either send a check or money
order through the mail or use CompuServe's Software Registration forum
(GO SWREG) and use SWREG ID# 11461 . For complete details on registering your
copy of Poker Dice read the Q & A section in the help file.
2) Installation
Aside from the ZIP file PKDICE.ZIP you will need one other file to
successfully install and run Poker Dice. You will need:
VBRUN300.DLL
VBRUN300.DLL is the run-time module needed to run all programs written in
the language Visual Basic. VBRUN300.DLL can be found on all on-line
services, or you can get it off my homepage on the World Wide Web. It is
usually stored as VBRUN3.ZIP. Once you have VBRUN300.DLL uncompress it and
put this file in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
Installation couldn't be easier. Simply create a new directory and put all
the files from PKDICE.ZIP into the directory. If you want to add a Program
Group and Icons (Windows 3.1) or add a Program Folder (Windows 95) you
can run SETUP.EXE. If you chose not to run the setup program you can
start the game by double clicking on the file DICE.EXE.
